Chris Monteiro calls the south coast of Massachusetts home but spent his formative years as the consummate “army brat.” Following his own successful 21-year career as a U.S. Army pilot, he ultimately lived in 12 different states, 3 countries, and has traveled to many, many more. While he also studied German and Spanish, he mostly credits his itinerant lifestyle for surrounding him with different cultures, races, and languages that nurtured his ability to quickly adapt to accents and dialects.

His military background and facility with accents bolster his passion to foster natural and diverse characters in military sci-fi, space operas, thrillers, and mysteries. With a B.S. in Aeronautics and an M.A. in teaching Chris is just as well-suited to non-fiction and historical material. Fun fact – as a book lover who discovered he could only stay awake while reading aloud, audiobook narration became a perfect fit him!

A trained screen and voice actor, Chris studied under Nils Osmar at Seattle’s Rekindle School and is a graduate of the Voices for All Master Class program. His voice has been featured in television and radio commercials, video games, documentaries, and an eclectic range of audiobook genres. Listeners have said that Chris “is a delight to listen to” and his voice produces “heartfelt emotions in the listener” and “brings an added immediacy to the story.”

Raised on the wisdom of Mister (not Doctor) Spock, Chris grew up as a semi-closeted nerd in disguise whose love of space, science, and existential philosophy lead others to describe him as an introverted extrovert – meaning, once you get to know him, he’ll talk your ear off about all things “geek.”

Chris has also had a lifelong love-affair with personal fitness. When not recording his next book, you just might cross paths with him on a hiking or biking trail, on a tennis or racquetball court, at the gym, or just out jogging wherever he happens to be. So be on the lookout and say hello!

Trust is the first casualty of war…

Disaster has struck the McDonald family. Everything they’ve built since the fall of civilization has been destroyed by a devastating fire. They’ve lost their community, supplies, and even loved ones. The death of Mike and James hits hardest of all. The other survivors are scattered. There’s nothing left.

All that remains is the indomitable will to survive. Jodi is lucky enough to have several family members survive the fire as they take to the road to find their new home.

In this harsh new world, other survivors are often the greatest threat and trust must be earned. But the dangers of traveling America after the EMP force their hand. The missionaries of Helios seem to have good intentions and offer the weary group safe refuge in their enclave.

But Jodi’s unease grows as they move farther from the burned village, and the missionaries reveal their zealous ideology. Soon, Jodi will discover just how far the missionaries will go to control their new guests.

And by that time, it may be too late to escape ….
